About the course

‘Thankyou. I made it myself’ Ever wanted to say that when someone admires your vase, or the mug they’re drinking out of? Enrol on one of these enjoyable pottery courses run by potter Caroline Smith, maker of the famous sheep pottery and you can. Discover for yourself the magical qualities of clay through various hand-building techniques and throwing and the excitement of glazing your own masterpiece.

Pottery is a fascinating and exciting art form that I hope will get students as fired up by the subject as I am. As a professional potter of over twenty years experience, including a BAHons in ceramics, I intend to impart as much knowledge and skill of the subject as possible. The objective of the course, which is aimed at beginners and experienced alike, is to have fun and socialise while at the same time producing pieces to be proud of. The methods of making will include pinch pots, coil building, slab work, and of course throwing. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace and those that wish to should be able to start throwing on the first or second week. Various methods of decoration will be discussed and employed including a range of glazing techiniques.
